The Colonial Bloke

Message from Terra Nova:
1-hour

G’day. There is more than one Reserve Bank upon this continent.

In 2005 a bloke born in Adelaide answered the door, and a Sheriff gave him some court papers. It was the last time he saw his kids, who he’d raised himself when they were babies, so he gave up Australian Citizenship by filing documents at Government House, tore up his ATM card and Centrelink papers, threw his mobile phone in the bin. He didn’t need a job, because he stomped onto Crown Land in Smithfield. He pitched a small tent, and pulled a battery and printer out of his knapsack, and printed 20 books, then sold them.
2 days later he printed 20 more books…

In 2008 a Government bloke knocked on the flap of the tent, “I’m moving you on…”

“It’s Crown Land, and I’ve been here 480days.”

The bloke caught the train to Adelaide, saw the Crown Solicitor, then stopped off at Government House to deliver Her Majesty his gold, stamps, and real money; because 9feet under his tent he’d dug a Mason’s Lodge using a chisel.

10 weeks later, the bloke still lives on Crown Land, and the Government guy is gone.

Was the bloke the first bloke to print real money legally? No.

The 1 Hour Note shown above honours Josiah Warren, a successful inventor who in 1827 started a small shop. Josiah was richer than his customers, so he got an idea…

He legally printed ‘1hour’ notes, and priced his goods by the time it took workers to make them. He also got paid by his time alone: so people shopped faster, to pay less.

Josiah got 4times more people in his shop than other shopkeepers, so other shops joined in. Then manufacturers began to pay their workers with Hour notes, so everybody became equally rewarded. If they went shopping in another town, they had problems trading Hour notes for USdollars; they got taxed.

Josiah was a real ‘Labor Man’, not a phoney. In those days, income tax was illegal (and still is in the USA) , but Josiah wasn’t called a ‘Labor Man’, they called him an Anarchist, a danger to society. Would Australian Labor leaders be worth $100million if we used Hour notes? No.

Why are the Guinea, florin and shilling notes shown above real and legal?

It’s because the bloke on Crown Land uses that land to earn the ‘old money’-Commonwealth Dollars. Then he backs those notes with gold nuggets, and gives the nuggets to our Queen. The notes are certificates that certify that fact, and are so legal tender.

If there’s a problem, it’s that a shilling is worth 5pence, but costs perhaps $5. The bloke doesn’t want what it cost him ($5); he wants to use it on Crown Land to conduct a 5pence trade without paying tax. If the shilling goes ‘round and around’ on Crown Land, it’s OK.

What happens if a person outside Crown Land gets a shilling? He wants 5bucks for it, or he sells it to a coin dealer for much more, because the note is rare… The bloke on Crown Land lives on less than 6bucks a day, but he won’t sell his real money to a coin dealer.

Perhaps there is a way to keep value of real money stable, by thinking carefully. Could both  Real Socialism and Real Capitalism be served at the same time by earning Hour notes and buying goods with Guineas? Ask a legal chap what he thinks, because in South Australia, these notes do legally exist on Crown Land. The people who deny the bloke access to his children don’t make a cent out of it, the people who legally aborted their brothers and sisters don’t make a cent out of it either. Josiah Warren fed his kids, ALL of them, and he didn’t pay tax; he earned the same as everybody else, and all their kids lived with a full belly.
