Aussies do have Brains

GetUp and other not-for-profit organisations are organising a walk against Against Global Warming. In Adelaide, we are meeting at the entrance of Adelaide Airport: other locations around Australia.

This week GetUp also joined forces with Greenpeace and the Nature Conservation Council to commission a Newspoll climate change survey:

91 per cent of Australians, including 90 per cent of Coalition voters, want Australia to shift away from reliance on coal-fired power to renewable energy sources, and 86 per cent believe the Federal Government should be doing more to tackle climate change. 92 per cent of Australians do not believe the Federal Government is doing enough to encourage clean technologies, while the overwhelming majority of Australians, including 71% of Coalition voters, want Australia to ratify the Kyoto Protocol.

Get Up’s Walk Against Warming held today was a great success.

John Howard is a coward. An international terrorist holding us all to ransom. Gambling with the future of all our children.

What’s his argument not to sign the Kyoto Protocal which advocates a minimum of 8% reduction in emissions in greenhouse gas ? “The Kyoto Protocol is anti-Australian jobs, particularly in the resource sector, because it imposes burdens on Australian industry and it doesn’t impose on like industries in Indonesia and China,” he said.

And he quietly and purposefully hastens to not mention that Australia has the HIGHEST per capita greenhouse emission rate.

“Burdens on Australian Industry” ??? Like what. ACTUALLY MAKING THEM ACCOUNTABLE ?

John Howard is clearly sitting squarely in the pockets of the large corporations – the BP’s the BHP’s the Rio Tinto’s. All of which exploit their workers and the environment to return a profit to their shareholders.

And we let this happen ?

    This is horrendous.

Like everyone that was at the Walk today – let’s march together for our future, for our kids future and for their kids future, for the future of the planet. It’s the one thing we should never sell out for.
